Held at the India Habitat Centre, the event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and accreditation bodies to emphasize the strategic role of accreditation in fostering innovation, competitiveness, and market access for Indian MSMEs.NEW DELHI: The Quality Council of India (QCI) marked World Accreditation Day 2025 with the launch of a revamped NABL Portal and renewed focus on empowering small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through quality and conformance. Held at the India Habitat Centre, the event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and accreditation bodies to emphasize the strategic role of accreditation in fostering innovation, competitiveness, and market access for Indian MSMEs.A key highlight was the unveiling of the new NABL Portal by QCI, aimed at streamlining the accreditation process, improving digital accessibility, and reducing procedural barriers—especially for laboratories and smaller businesses. The portal is part of QCI’s broader digital transformation initiative to make India’s quality infrastructure more inclusive and efficient.
Gunvatta Samarpan and Industry-Wide Quality Commitment
As part of the celebrations, QCI also introduced Gunvatta Samarpan, a unique platform encouraging organisations across sectors to publicly pledge commitment to accredited quality standards. This initiative is intended to drive a cultural shift toward quality-first thinking in Indian industry.
“Accreditation: Empowering SMEs”
Themed “Accreditation: Empowering Small and Medium Enterprises”, the event underscored how globally recognized certifications can help Indian SMEs reduce product rejections, improve productivity, and access both domestic and international markets.
Addressing the gathering, Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, emphasized that accreditation is a critical pillar of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat @2047. He highlighted that strong quality frameworks not only strengthen exports but also promote inclusive and sustainable industrial growth.
“Accreditation is a Gateway to Global Trust”: QCI Chairperson
In his keynote address, Jaxay Shah, Chairperson, QCI, stated that “accreditation is a gateway to global trust.” He reiterated its value in enabling MSMEs to align with international benchmarks, reduce rejection rates, enhance operational efficiency, and build trust with buyers across the globe.
Following the inaugural ceremony, a Technical Session and CEO Forum brought together domain experts who shared insights on accreditation’s impact across sectors—from diagnostic laboratories and management systems to third-party inspections and sustainable manufacturing. Discussions also focused on how accredited systems contribute to India’s net-zero ambitions and strengthen diagnostic infrastructure and export capabilities.
Global Relevance of Accreditation
Observed worldwide every year on June 9, World Accreditation Day highlights the role of accreditation in ensuring quality, supporting trade, and advancing economic development. QCI, through its boards NABL and NABCB, works closely with international partners like ILAC and IAF to align India’s accreditation systems with global standards.
The 2025 observance reinforced the view that accreditation is not merely a compliance tool, but a strategic enabler of growth for India’s small businesses in a competitive, globalised economy.
