Raven Lounge in Lynchburg brings live music and unique atmosphere to the heart of Main St.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — A brand new lounge is opening its doors in downtown Lynchburg! The Raven Lounge, a music-centered spot with something for everyone to enjoy, has found it’s home on Main St.

Jenee Davis, owner of the Raven Lounge, said it’s something unique to the Hill City.

We wanted to create an atmosphere that was kind of vibey. That we could focus on music, wine and a lounge. A place where you can just come and hang out,” Davis said. “The inspiration for the Raven Lounge came because I sing in a band, Atlas Moon, and me and the guitar player, Bryan Fitz, decided that we wanted to really open up a place that had a heavy emphasis on music in the community.”

The lounge is dimly lit, with couches and raven photos throughout. Davis said they drew inspiration from Edgar Allan Poe.

“I’m from Louisiana, and so I think I brought a little bit of my Cajun heritage in here with all the darkness and the sconces, and the flame flickering bulbs,” she said. “We were throwing names at each other, and ‘The Raven’ just stuck out. It fit what we were wanting to do as far as the atmosphere we wanted to create, kind of that dark, speakeasy, chill, relaxed, kind of magical vibe… With Edgar Allan Poe’s poem ‘The Raven,’ it’s all about perception. When you read it, everybody gets a little something different from it, and we wanted everybody to be able to come in here and get something from the Raven Lounge.”

Davis said she wanted to create something that didn’t feel like a restaurant, and instead gave people a place to just come in and relax. Though the Raven will have food options for folks to enjoy, like charcuterie and fancy grilled cheese.

We really just wanted somewhere that you can come and hang out. Anywhere in Lynchburg, which Lynchburg is beautiful, there’s great places to go, but everything feels like a restaurant and we wanted something that wasn’t a restaurant,” she said. “Everything comes out on a board. We have our own personalized Raven board. The charcuterie is not your everyday block cheese charcuterie, it’s nice charcuterie. It’s hardy, it’s filling and it’s enough for you to share. We’ll have different sizes and just cool accompaniments on the boards.”

Raven Lounge will also have tons of drink options to choose from, from wine and wine slushies to an expansive mocktail menu.

We wanted a heavy emphasis where everybody can come in and have something to drink… We will have some mocktails, we’ll have some frozen mocktail slushies, we’ll have some regular wine slushies as well. Then, we’ll have some cool non-alcoholic beers, like beers that you don’t see everywhere else,” Davis said.

Raven Lounge officially opens on May 10! Davis said they’ll have live music four days each week.

“We are booking music four times a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays will be in the evening… We’re gonna be doing what we call ‘Boards and Bands,’ from 11 to 2 on Saturday and Sunday, we’re gonna have live music during the day. So, if your family’s coming downtown, you have your children with you, you’re going to the community market, you can stop in and grab a cheese and fruit plate, a charcuterie, a fancy grilled cheese, and listen to live music during the day. There’s not really anywhere else you can do that unless it’s a special event.”

Raven Lounge will be open Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
