Red, Armani and tailored tuxedos: Trends from the 2025 Emmy Awards

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards kicked off in Los Angeles, with A-listers descending on the Peacock Theater to celebrate the best in TV.

Here are the top trends and looks from the Emmy Awards red carpet…

Red

Old Hollywood glamour seemed to be the memo for most celebrities at the awards, with red serving as a statement staple for many of the stars.

Actress Sydney Sweeney stepped out in a silky, red, strapless custom Oscar de la Renta gown. She paired her dress with a 120-carat diamond necklace with a 40-carat marquise drop by Lorraine Schwartz.

Selena Gomez also made a bold entrance in a vibrant red Louis Vuitton gown. The design featured an oversized halter neckline, with a sleek ponytail, soft pink lipstick, and silver earrings completing the look.

Other stars embracing the power of red included Britt Lower – who took home the award for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Severance – wearing a minimalist, burnt copper Calvin Klein look, and Euphoria star Hunter Schafer, who stunned in a sculptural McQueen creation.

Adding a twist to the colour palette, British actress Aimee Lou Wood channeled Fifties Hollywood in a blush pink gown by McQueen, featuring a sweetheart neckline and a faux bra detail in cherry red.

Black

Others opted for all-black ensembles that exuded Golden Age glamour. Australian actress Cate Blanchett stood out in a midnight-black jumpsuit featuring a deep V-neckline adorned with a sheer crystal trim.

Catherine Zeta-Jones captivated in a black gown by Yara Shoemaker. The strapless, semi-sheer dress featured a dramatic plumed corset, intricate lace detailing, and velvet piping – exuding gothic glamour in a fitting nod to her on-screen persona, Morticia Addams, in Wednesday.

British actress Erin Doherty, who won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her role as Briony Ariston in Adolescence, arrived in a striking black look by Louis Vuitton.

Sarah Catherine Hook in Miu Miu, Quinta Brunson in Louis Vuitton, Chase Sui Wonders in Thom Browne and Chloë Sevigny in Saint Laurent, also embraced the trend with striking gowns at the event.

Over in menswear, Jason Isaacs donned a timeless black tuxedo, featuring a two-tone jacket, a matching tie, and leather shoes. Martin Short and Steve Martin also embraced classic elegance, stepping out in traditional tuxedos that underscored their enduring red carpet charm.

Armani

Several stars paid tribute to the late Giorgio Armani, the legendary designer who passed away on 4 September this year.

Cate Blanchett, Keri Russell, Molly Gordon, and presenter and first-time nominee for Nobody Wants This, Kristen Bell, were among those who honoured Armani by wearing his designs.

Nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a limited series for her work in Disclaimer, Blanchett’s elegant, structured jumpsuit was from the Armani Privé fall/winter 2025 couture collection.

Bell also showcased Armani’s artistry in a black-and-white gown from the label’s fall/winter 2025 couture collection. The gown featured a sheer skirt adorned with intricate embroidered sequins and shimmering appliqués.

Tailored tuxedos

It wasn’t just the women whose ensembles were turning heads, wonderfully tailored tuxedos stole the show, from Colman Domingo’s powder blue suit to Seth Rogan’s rust, velvet tux.

Domingo looked dapper in a Valentino checked powder-blue blazer paired with a polka-dot shirt and a coordinating scarf.

His brown flared trousers added a vintage touch, while the suit jacket dazzled with dripping silver diamantes that echoed the tassels of his dress scarf. Domingo embraced the glitz fully, accessorising with bold rings and a watch from Boucheron.

Meanwhile, Rogen made a stylish entrance in a tobacco-brown velvet tuxedo by Etro. He completed the autumnal look with a matching silk bow tie, a crisp white shirt, and thick-framed hexagonal glasses. The 43-year-old actor took home the Emmy for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his work in The Studio.
