Reforms to improve labour administration ongoing, says FG

The Federal Government is implementing a range of policy and institutional reforms to provide good governance and improve the various components of the nation’s labour administration in line with international best practice.

The reforms, it said, include strengthening the legal and policy frameworks for occupational safety and health, improving national productivity, institutionalising social dialogue, mainstreaming gender inclusivity, enhancing labour inspection and compliance systems, and extending social protection for vulnerable workers.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Muhammadu Dingyadi, who said this in his goodwill message to the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) yearly general meeting in Lagos, stated that the reforms are anchored on the principles of social dialogue and tripartism.

He said that as key drivers of the economy, employers have a central role in building a productive, innovative, and resilient workforce.

Dingyadi urged NECA to continue to invest in skills development, decent employment practices, and inclusive business models that not only boost competitiveness but also promote social cohesion.

The Minister said employers must continue to foster an environment that upholds the values of equity, accountability, innovation, and shared prosperity, even as he called for continued partnership in building a more just, equitable, and prosperous Nigeria.

“Let us work together to create a workplace that is safe, fair, and inclusive where businesses flourish and workers can contribute meaningfully and thrive with dignity. In shaping the future of work, our shared responsibility is to ensure that progress leaves no one behind.

“A future that is inclusive and just is one where enterprises can grow, adapt, and compete in a globalised economy, while workers enjoy access to fair wages, safe working conditions, and opportunities for personal and professional development,” he said.
