Regional Development Conference Opens Tuesday – Global News Network Liberia

-As CSA Convens Six Countries Health Workforce Development

Monrovia (03-03-’25): The Civil Service Agency (CSA) will tomorrow, commence a four-Day Regional Public Service Leadership Conference on Health Workforce Development at the Ellen Johnson –Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo, near Monrovia.

The CSA Director General, Honorable Dr. Josiah F. Joekai who announced this at a press conference at the Agency says this “historic conference” will be convened on the theme, Advancing Human Health Workforce through public health service excellence: Building Resilient and Innovative Institutions for Sustainable Development.

Saying that the Conference which will last from Tuesday, March 4, to Friday, March 7, 2025 will bring together delegates from six countries including La Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Sierra Leone, the Central African Republic and the host country Liberia, Director General Joekai the conference will afford delegates the opportunity to discuss challenges common to their respective countries, noting that the conference will  also provide the avenue for knowledge and experience sharing amongst participants. .

The US$50, 000 groundbreaking initiative with sponsorship from Health Development Partner of Africa and the Caribbean (HeDPAC) and no cost to Liberia, Dr. Joekai indicated, is a crucial step towards building resilient and innovative institutions for sustainable development of health workforce not only for Liberia but for the rest of Africa.

According to him, public institutions in the sector in Africa, faced similar challenges of limited resources and inefficiencies, adding that at the end of the Conference, delegates will be afforded the opportunity to create a framework critical to addressing these challenges critical to advancing human health workforce through excellent public health services across participating countries.

The Conference supported by Africa-Africa Partnership, Dr. Joekai indicated, will be focused on data driven partnership, merit-based recruitment and workforce planning and strengthening institutional resilience to derive the regional framework workable amongst countries of Africa and the world at large.    

In the face of the pulling out of USAID from Africa, Dr. Joekai said it is important that Africans institutions, especially in Liberia, not to rely on traditional agencies such as UN, World Bank amongst others to supporting their programs, adding that “We must look with Africa for support of our projects like we did that brought for the sponsorship of this conference from HeDPAC, or do local mobilization of resources to carry on our projects,” Dr. Joekai said

The CSA boss pointed out further that the key success of the initiative is alignment with global frameworks such as the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) and Health Development Partnership in Africa and the Caribbean (HeDPAC), the Africa Union’s Agenda 2063  and the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) amongst others, adding that he was pleased that the idea of the of this collaboration which he hopes will be incorporated in regional and global frameworks is originating from  Liberia.

Inclusive in the planning of the conference were the CSA as Chair, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the General Service Agency, the Liberia National Police, the Liberia Immigration Service, the Liberia Airport Authority and the Ministry of Health.  Already, delegates from participating countries have started arriving yesterday, Dr. Joekai disclosed, stating that Health Minister Dr. Kpoto will serve as keynote speaker for the opening session.
