Auto News
Renault is likely to introduce the hybrid version of the Duster and its bigger cousin the Bigster, with the standard version being suspected for an early 2026 launch.
Renault Duster 2025
New Delhi: The Renault Duster’s hybrid model is scheduled to arrive in India within a year of the petrol model’s arrival, as confirmed by Autocar India. It was further reported that the three-row version of the SUV, the Bigster, is scheduled to be launched after the Duster and will get a strong hybrid.
Earlier, it had been revealed by the media publication that Renault-Nissan’s Chennai factory will begin the production of the Duster in September of this year, with the launch being scheduled for early 2026. Media sources have said that Duster will not just come with petrol and turbo-petrol but, along with the Bigster, will get strong-hybrid variants, which will arrive within 6-12 months of the initial launches.
Renault Duster expected powertrain
There is not much information on the hybrid powertrain to be offered in India, although the Duster on sale overseas comes with a strong-hybrid option. A 94 bhp, 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine combines with two electric motors, a 49 bhp and a high-voltage starter generator that are driven by a 1.2 kWh battery, producing a total of 140 bhp.
An electric gearbox is also standard, and the brand has said that the setup allows for pure electric drive for close to 80 per cent of city driving. The Bigster, which is of the larger size, produces 155 bhp with a 108 hp petrol engine and a 51 bhp motor and starter generator that are powered by a 1.4 kWh battery.
Renault brings the new Duster and Bigster with the CMF-B platform, in order to compete in the Indian market. The design supports ICE, hybrid and electric powertrains, giving Renault the flexibility for the future. The platform is set to deliver two Renaults and two Nissans. The strategy of powertrain from Nissan will support both the current market situation and the future demands.
Although a new electric SUV is under construction, Renault is giving importance to CNG and strong hybrids, in order to align with the diverse demands of the country. The focus is much more practical in terms of the incentives offered by the government on the hybrid and CNG vehicles.
