Respect nature while promoting tourism: Priyanka Gandhi
Congress general secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has called for a concerted effort by all stakeholders to dispel the fear in the minds of tourists regarding Wayanad after the massive landslides of July last year and show the country that the district has more to offer.
Addressing a tourism convention organised by the Association of Tourism Trade Organisations India (ATTOI) at Sulthan Bathery on Friday (March 28), Ms. Vadra cautioned against the destruction of nature as the industry grew. “We shall not forget the actual asset that provides us a livelihood through tourism. It is necessary to respect nature,” she said.
Earlier, Ms. Vadra inaugurated the 50-acre Kattunaika Unnathi Cultural Centre built under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) of A.K. Antony when he was a Rajya Sabha member, at Vadakkanad near Sulthan Bathery. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Vadra said she would address issues faced by tribespeople, such as drinking water shortage, poor roads, and wild animal attacks. Ms. Vadra said that she would prevail upon the Union government to expedite the 12-km road project to the settlement and request the State government to set up the crash guard iron fencing, for which funds had already been sanctioned.
Earlier in the day, the Wayanad MP laid foundation stones for various projects of Thavinjal grama panchayat, including a model Anganwadi, ‘Take a break’ wayside restroom, a women’s cafeteria, and a park.
Later in the evening, the MP inaugurated the newly constructed football turf at MAMO College at Manassery, Mukkom, in Kozhikode district.
