Review: Chris Stanbury shines at Music at HeART concert
Chris began the evening with the Big Band sound of At the Sign of the Swinging Cymbal – which many music fans will recall was the signature tune of the weekly BBC programme Top of the Pops for over 40 years.
After this appropriate opening, a tune so rarely heard was performed – namely The Closest Thing to Crazy, a big success for Katie Melua (who at one time, coincidentally, had attended the same music school as Chris).

Chris Stanbury performed for Music at HeART. (Image: Supplied) An Elvis Presley tribute included It’s Now or Never, Can’t Help Falling In Love and The Wonder of You, before Chris stirred a few memories with a selection of BBC radio themes.
Most keen filmgoers will have recognised Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head, the Burt Bacharach and Hal David composition for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid whereas the selection from The Sound of Music was certainly well known.
The main theme from the musical was followed by such favourites as Edelweiss, My Favourite Things and Climb Every Mountain.
An hour had passed so swiftly and the interval had arrived.
The entertainment resumed with Apache (The Shadows) and A Whiter Shade of Pale (Procol Harum), followed by a popular Walt Disney medley.
Chris then declared his particular love of Big Band music with Hot Toddy and East of the Sun (tunes associated with the Ted Heath Band).

The delightful sound of piano and orchestra was then utilised for a selection of Dusty Springfield hits.
Next to feature was the ever-popular Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen), preceding a group of tunes in Latin American style.
Chris then performed Hit and Miss, the John Barry Seven theme written for the BBC television panel show Juke Box Jury, followed by a few more pop hits from the sixties – and somehow 60 years didn’t seem so long ago!
Such an enjoyable evening simply could not end without an encore – and Chris duly obliged, urging the audience to ‘fasten their seat belts’ as he launched into the rousing theme from Thunderbirds.
A tremendous evening of music provided by an extremely talented player!
The club’s next concert is on Thursday, 17 April, details of which can be obtained at weyhill-eos.co.uk or by phoning 01264 323213.
