Reviewing Chanel’s Newest Perfume: Chance Eau Splendide
Yep, you read that right. Sometimes the job calls for hopping on a plane to one of the most magical cities in the world to discover an exciting new product launch. It’s one of the coolest perks of being an editor— and trust, the Cosmo beauty team doesn’t take the privilege lightly. So, let me tell you about how my recent jaunt to Paris with Chanel Beauty to celebrate the debut of Chance Eau Splendide was unforgettable for so many reasons. For starters, it marks the fifth fragrance in the Chance lineup—a number that holds major significance at Chanel (Chanel No.5, anyone?). Oh, and it’s the first Chance scent to debut in a whole decade.
If you’re anything like me then you’ve been not-so-patiently counting down the days for the latest Chanel perfume to drop—and that wait is finally over! Enter, Eau Splendide, the latest creation by Chanel’s in-house perfumer Olivier Polge. Described as a “fruity floral,” this scent is equal parts magnetic and mysterious—a duo that somehow works so effortlessly. The lavender-hued juice is already giving royal energy and the delicious top note of raspberry makes it a perfect addition to your gourmand perfume arsenal. The base notes of geranium and cedar give this fragrance depth and balance, making it pretty much irresistible no matter your scent vibe.

And what’s a major fragrance launch without an unforgettable face and a dazzling campaign to match? Chanel nailed both by choosing singer-songwriter Angèle to be the face of Eau Splendide. The 29-year-old Belgian pop princess has casually collaborated with Dua Lipa, slayed the Met Gala red carpet, and even performed at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics. Budding icon behavior, if you ask me. I had the chance to see Angèle live at the Chance Eau Splendide launch party in Paris, and I was seriously blown away. The performance was electric and I can’t get her song “A Little More” out of my head. With her uber-cool-girl aura, Angèle perfectly captures the essence of how Chanel wants this new perfume to make us feel.
I caught the vibe, for sure. Here’s everything you need to know about Chance Eau Splendide before you (no doubt) add it to cart.
What does Chanel Chance Eau Splendide smell like?
I always like to describe scents in vibes—because, let’s be real, it’s hard to imagine what something like raspberry, geranium, and cedar smells like together. When I asked Polge, the nose behind the scent, how many versions of this scent he created before landing on this one, he told me, “too many to count.” But here’s how I’d describe it: Eau Splendide smells like those first few days of spring—when the air is warming up, the world feels alive again, and you’re buzzing with a sense of fresh optimism and energy. You can picture it, right? I can totally see myself reaching for this bb often, especially for park lunches with my girlfriends or one of the many weddings and bridal or baby showers filling up my calendar over the next five months.
Does Chanel Chance Eau Splendide last long?
Since I had the privilege of being one of the first people on the planet to get my hands on this bottle, I was jazzed about wearing it nonstop during my three-day stay in Paris with the brand. I literally carried it in my purse everywhere—but luckily, I only had to reapply once, right before heading out to dinner. So, from about 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., I could still catch whiffs of that initial spritz. A few more extra pumps carried me right through the evening festivities. It also helps that I don’t play about moisturizing my skin. Pro tip: If you want your fragrance to last longer, always apply it to well-lotioned skin— and be generous.
What are the other Chanel Chance perfumes?
The original Chance perfume, Chance Eau, debuted in 2003 and quickly became a fan favorite—so it only made sense to keep the momentum (and the juice) flowing! “You have five completely different perfumes. But they share the same state of mind and spirit. Very distinct, obvious, and strikes you right away,” says Polge.
In order of their launch, the lineup goes: Chance Eau, Chance Eau Fraiche, Chance Eau Tendre, Chance Eau Vive—and now Chance Eau Splendide. Before getting my hands on Eau Spendide, I had the first four in heavy rotation. I always keep a bottle of Chance Eau Fraiche on deck—it’s my go-to citrusy scent for summer. Chance Eau Vive, with its jasmine and grapefruit notes, is my pick when I want to smell elegant and a little bit fierce. The OG, Chance Eau, is for folks who want to leave a lasting impression—thanks to punchy notes of pink pepper and patchouli, it’s not for wallflowers. And then there’s Eau Tendre, which leans into soft rose and creamy musk for a dreamy, romantic feel. TBH, you can’t go wrong with any of them. The Chance collection is basically the gateway drug to the full Chanel perfume universe (which is currently 85 fragrances and counting)!

My Review:
It’s fresh, feminine, and just the right amount of unexpected. The opening hit of raspberry is juicy without being too sweet, while the mix of geranium and cedar brings a clean, grounded vibe that feels expensive—because, well, it is. At $176, it’s an investment, but one that pays off every time someone stops you to ask what you’re wearing. This scent doesn’t scream; it smolders. It’s giving “Wait, who just walked by?’ Perfect for when I want to smell soft but commanding. I’m not usually a fruit-scent kind of girl, but this one stole my heart. Most fruity-florals that I’ve tried in the past fade too quickly, but this one sticks around just enough to quietly boost my confidence and delight those around me. If your signature scent needs a refresh, this one’s more than worth the splurge.
