Rishi Sunak’s wife Akshata shows she’s a good sport playing football | Politics | News
Akshata Murty, wearing a striking red dress, enjoyed a kickaround at the British Council, as husband Rishi Sunak asked kids about their favourite sports.
After they raised their hands, Mr Sunak said: “There is a lot of basketball [fans], not enough cricket – definitely not enough cricket.”
The couple were given sports tops with their surnames on the back and Ms Murty, whose dad is an Indian tech tycoon, said she will wear hers for her runs.
Their arrival for the G20 summit was eagerly anticipated with local TV running a countdown clock ahead of their jet touching down.
As they disembarked traditional dancers and music played at the airport.
Their convoy of more than a dozen cars had no trouble in an eerily quiet capital under security lockdown.
During their trip to the British Council they met children taking part in UK-funded programmes for computer coding and language skills.
Rishi Sunak asked the kids whether they watched India’s successful Moon landing and he then commented: “That was really cool, wasn’t it? A special moment.”
Ms Murty stole the show chatting with the children about their coding projects and posing for selfies.
Youngsters told the couple about their favourite books, with one 14-year-old picking Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
