Rs 3 cr first weekend for Mohanlal film in Karnataka
Thudarum, the Mohanlal starrer directed by Tharun Moorthy, best known for films like Operation Java and Saudi Vellakka, had a good f irst weekend at the Karnataka box office, where the Malayalam original version released. The film opened with 126 shows only, which went up to 324 by Sunday. By end of day on Day 2, it was estimated that the film had grossed around Rs 1.7 cr, which after the first weekend is said to stand around Rs 2.9 cr to Rs 3.1 cr. Thudarum’s first Sunday, in that case, held steady and recorded similar collections as on Saturday, despite an addition of 100 shows.
Thudarum still has at least 3 days until May 1, what with not too many other films making a dent at the box office currently. All of that changes on Thursday, when HIT 3, Retro and Raid 2 release. Trackers estimate that Thudarum will get to about Rs 5-6 crore at the Karnataka box office. Back home in Kerala, though, the film continues its rampage, with Day 4 expected to add around Rs 6 crore, while pre-sales for Day 5 is already hovering around the Rs 3 cr mark and Day 6 at Rs 1.1 cr.
Thudarum’s India gross for first weekend around Rs 25 cr
The film’s 3-day all-India gross has been reported to be around Rs 25 cr, of which Rs 20 cr has come from Kerala, with overseas figures said to be in the Rs 40-Rs 41 cr range. Independent trackers have estimated Thudarum’s 3-day gross to be Rs 69 crore. The film is likely to hit the Rs 100 crore mark before HIT 3 and Retro take over the box office in the rest of India.
Written by KR Sunil and produced by Rejaputhra Visual Media, Thudarum is said to be a family drama thriller featuring Mohanlal in the lead, along with Shobana, Prakash Varma, Binu Pappu, Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Thomas Mathew, Amritha Varshini, and many others. The film features music by Jakes Bejoy, which has been hailed as among his best work.
