Russia-backed Indian refiner sues Microsoft over suspended services

Nayara Energy says it has started legal action against Microsoft in the Delhi High Court after the U.S. software company stopped key services without prior notice.

The Indian refiner, backed by Russian firms including Rosneft, says Microsoft blocks access to its data, tools, and products despite fully paid licenses.

The company seeks an interim order to restore services and protect its access to digital systems. Employees lose access to Outlook and Teams after the suspension, which Nayara says happens without any consultation. Microsoft declines to comment.

The European Union recently sanctioned Nayara, a major buyer of Russian oil. After the sanctions, at least two product tankers skipped loading at its Vadinar facility and one crude shipment was diverted.

Nayara appoints Sergey Denisov as its new CEO after the previous chief resigns.
