Russia condemns Israeli plans to seize Gaza, warns of humanitarian catastrophe

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Security Council, Vasily Alekseevich Nebenzya, on Sunday evening condemned the Israeli government’s desire to seize control of the Gaza Strip, describing its actions as a blatant violation of international law.

He warned that the current escalation threatens regional security and the lives of prisoners.

Speaking at a Security Council session, Nebenzya accused Israel’s foreign minister of exploiting the council’s deliberations to serve his government’s interests.

He cautioned that Israel’s plan would worsen the humanitarian crisis and increase civilian suffering by forcing residents to flee and using hunger as a weapon—actions that amount to war crimes. He called for pursuing a diplomatic solution.
