According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds is working on a treatment for a new “Deadpool” movie that is expected to involve at least three members of the X-Men team.

“Reynolds is exploring ideas for a Deadpool movie that would feature X-Men characters, as well as continuing to script the Paramount comedy Boy Band after making writing a priority for much of this year before tackling other obligations, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.”

The report from The Hollywood Reporter also goes into detail about the project, which has yet to be pitched to any studio. Considering that “Deadpool & Wolverine” made $1.338 billion at the box office and R-rated movies have made the most money out of any R-rated movie ever released, it is believed that studios will be battling it out for this potential sequel.

Deadpool and Wolverine is a festival of meta Marvel. Beyond the headline acts it also includes Wesley Snipes as Blade, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.

Reynolds did make mention that the Deadpool character would not be in another solo movie, and that is being proven true with the new project once again focusing on a potential ensemble cast instead of just featuring The Merc With a Mouth by himself.

The Hollywood Reporter also indicated that this film will not interfere with or be connected to the X-Men movie being made for Marvel Studios.

The X-Men have yet to make their grand Marvel appearance, other than in the MCU, including mutations. Namor from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and Kamala Khan from “Ms. Marvel” are the first two confirmed and new mutants.

Wolverine and Professor Xavier have been introduced and are from the FOX era, but both might only be involved in minor ways moving forward.

Professor Xavier has been confirmed for the “Avengers: Doomsday” film, but he may not be an integral mutant in the grand MCU plan.

Marvel fans have been begging for the X-Men to fully appear in the MCU, especially the main characters like Cyclops, Beast, Jean Grey, Storm, and more.

Reynolds might be once again playing with some X-Men characters in this proposed film, but they might also not be the ones highlighted in the upcoming MCU film. Either way, this is exciting news for the future of the “Deadpool” franchise.
