  • Saif Ali Khan, Chandrachur Singh rejected this film due to Shah Rukh Khan, this actor joined as second lead, movie was a blockbuster, director became star

The director of this mega-blockbuster movie initially wanted to cast Saif Ali Khan, but he refused. The filmmaker then approached Chandrachur Singh, who also turned it down.

During multiple media interactions, director Karan Johar revealed that he had initially approached Chandrachur Singh for Salman Khan’s role in the 1998 film. On Zee TV’s talk show Yaaron Ki Baraat, KJo shared that Chandrachur had turned down the role. He recalled, “I thought of casting Chandrachur Singh in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai because three other actors had already rejected the role. I was under a lot of stress, as I was told that no one wanted to do it. So, I decided to offer it to Chandrachur Singh. He called me and asked me to meet him the next day. But when I contacted him again, he agreed to do the film and asked for the full story.”

Karan further explained, “I went to his house to narrate the story, but before I could even begin, he refused to do the film. I was shocked! He could have just told me over the phone and saved me two hours of travel time.”

People loved Salman Khan’s role in the film, but few knew how he landed the part. Salman played Aman in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Recently, actor Chandrachur Singh revealed the story behind it. In an exclusive conversation with DNA, Singh was asked about the incident. He responded, “I can say it was my loss. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a wonderful and well-made film. But the truth is, what’s meant to happen, happens. It was one of those decisions you make and learn from.”

After Chandrachur, Karan Johar asked Saif Ali Khan too for the role. KJo said, “After that, I offered the role to Saif Ali Khan. Saif listened to the story and said, ‘It’s a wonderful story, but I don’t want to take the risk.’ I was frustrated because I was facing problems casting both the heroine and the hero for the role.”

When it came to Salman Khan, he asked for a whopping fees. Karan then mentioned the situation to his father, Yash Johar, who said, “It doesn’t fit into the budget, and though Salman is wonderful, we can’t afford it.”

Karan Johar shared, “That night, I was feeling really low, so my friends invited me to Chunky Pandey’s party to cheer me up. I went, and that’s where I met Salman Khan. He noticed I wasn’t in a good mood and asked, “Why do you look so down?” I tried to brush it off, saying, “Oh, it’s nothing, just not feeling great.”

Salman then jokingly asked, “Have you approached every actor? Been out hero shopping?’ Karan initially denied it but eventually admitted, ‘Yeah, I have, but I’ll figure something out.’ Salman then said, ‘Come meet me again tomorrow.’ When Karan did, Salman told him, ‘I’ll do your film. I like you, and I respect your father. Pay me whatever you can.”

Karan agreed and promised, “This is what I can afford now, and if the film does well, I’ll pay you more.” And that’s how it worked out! Salman took on the role, and according to Karan, “He was absolutely wonderful.”
