Saiyaara has not just broken records in terms of box office collections, its music has found an equal footing on every platform. Especially the title track that’s been composed by Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami, and sung by Faheem has gone viral on social media, with internet remaining flooded with edits, reels and posts. Starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the song is part of the Mohit Suri directorial’s climax sequence and sets the mood of pain and longing for one’s love. Infact, to say the track has managed to break Bagchi’s image of remaking old classics with the heartwrenching original track, won’t be wrong.

Highest-charting Hindi song of all time

Saiyaara track has, as of today, soared to top 4 in the Spotify Top 50 Global Viral songs list crossing 4.9 million streams. Infact, it has also become the first Indian song to find place in the top 10 ranking in the list, defeating msic icons like Justin Bieber, Drake, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga and several K-pop biggies. Infact, the track is also expected to debut around #11 on the Billboard Global 200 chart with over 90 million streams worldwide this week.

Saiyaara’s journey

Tanishk Bagchi has spoke about the manner in which Saiyaara sets the real mood. Infact, he revealed that it was inspired by his personal life, from a phase when he was getting trolled for only recreating songs. “Par ab Saiyaara se logo ko pata chal raha hai ki Tanishk Bagchi original mein bhi baap hai,” he said in a recent interview.

About the composers

Saiyaara was initially tiled titled Saiyaan Mera. Its original lyrics and melody were made by singer-composers Arsalan Nizami and Faheem Abdullah. Bagchi reworked on the track and presented it to Mohit Suri. Instead of roping in popular singers, choice was made by the team to retain its original creators as the voices behind the song.

Interestingly, Faheem and his longtime collaborator Arslan landed the song by chance. The two Kashmiris had landed in Mumbai to try their luck after quitting their jobs. Fairly popular locally, the two had not found fame outside their state. The collected their savings and landed in Mumbai and gave themselves 14 days. On the 13th day of their struggle, they met Bagchi, who offered them Saiyaara!

Dissecting Saiyaara track’s texture

Saiyaara incorporates instruments like guitar and piano, along with certain pads. Everything is packed with oral backing to create a very dreamy and emotional piece in the backdrop of a concert-like set-up. It uses lyrics, penned by Irshad Kamil that explore themes of love and longing.

Ahaan Kapoor’s deep projection and at the core of an intense plot makes it visually heart-plucking too.

Saiyaara’s popularity

Upon its release, Saiyaara became the biggest Bollywood debut ever on Spotify India, earning more than 3.5 million streams within 24 hours. The track continues to garner approximately 5 million streams per day globally, with all its versions (original, reprised etc) trending even on YouTube.

It is estimated that the song will go on to earn Rs 3-5 crore across platforms per month.
