In a significant boost to India’s innovation ecosystem, Samsung R&D Institute, Noida (SRI-N) has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) to strengthen its industry-academia collaboration. The partnership aims to drive advanced research in Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly for Indian languages, HealthTech solutions, and emerging technologies such as Generative AI.

The MoU was signed by Kyungyun Roo, Managing Director of SRI-N, and Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras. The collaboration will cover a wide spectrum of initiatives including sponsored research and consultancy projects, technology licensing, training programs, infrastructure development, and student fellowship sponsorships.

At the core of this partnership is a shared vision to create inclusive and future-ready technological solutions that cater to the needs of India’s diverse population. “Our collaboration with IIT Madras marks an important step toward co-creating technologies that are meaningful and transformative”, said Kyungyun Roo. “This partnership will support the enhancement of the Galaxy AI ecosystem through better integration of Indian regional languages, helping to break down language barriers”.

Prof. Kamakoti highlighted the strategic importance of the alliance, noting that it will empower students and researchers with practical applications of cutting-edge AI tools. “This MoU will foster revolutionary research and equip future engineers with the skills to translate theoretical concepts into real-world solutions, especially in times of uncertainty”, he added.

This collaboration further solidifies Samsung’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ missions by investing in local talent and innovation. It also complements SRI-Noida’s ongoing academic partnerships with top-tier institutes like IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, and IIT Ropar.

Research and development projects under this MoU may be carried out at IIT Madras, Samsung’s Noida facility, or through a joint setup, enabling dynamic and collaborative work environments. By combining industrial scale with academic depth, the partnership is set to push the boundaries of what’s possible in India’s tech landscape.
