Scientist Bats For Stronger Institutional Tie-Ups To Make India Leader In Laser Tech |

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Stronger institutional collaborations were needed to position India as a global leader in laser science and technology, said Prof I Manna, vice-chancellor of Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, Ranchi and a distinguished materials scientist, on Thursday.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the 33rd DAE-BRNS National Laser Symposium (NLS-33) in a private university here. Leading scientists, engineers and industry experts in the field of laser technology are participating in the four-day event.

The symposium, running until March 9, aims to showcase cutting-edge research and advancements in the domain of lasers and their applications. As many as 22 eminent researchers from prestigious universities and national laboratories, will deliver expert talks on the latest developments in laser science.

Additionally, over 200 research papers will be presented, fostering discussions on new innovations and applications. In his address, Prof Manna highlighted the significant contributions of department of atomic energy (DAE) institutions, particularly the Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), in advancing laser technology across India.

He emphasized the need for stronger institutional partnerships to position India as a global leader in laser science and technology and the importance of laser additive manufacturing (LAM) in boosting India’s manufacturing sector and economic growth.

Dr SV Nakhe, former president of Indian Laser Association (ILA) and former director of RRCAT, who was the guest of honour, spoke on the transformative impact of laser technology in fields like medical diagnostics and advanced manufacturing.

Dr CP Paul, ILA general secretary, urged the participants to embrace challenges and push the boundaries of scientific exploration to realize India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047. Following the inauguration, Prof I Manna launched an industrial exhibition, featuring the latest laser technologies from top national and international companies. A dedicated industry session is also being held to promote industry-academia collaboration.
