Scientists say Arctic is in ‘new regime,’ cite increasing temperatures and melting ice

ANTARCTICA (WKRC) – Scientists determined that the Arctic entered a “new regime” due to the effects of climate change, resulting in more extreme conditions on the surface and the continued melting of ice.

According to a study published in Communications Earth & Environment, the Arctic is “changing state” and that the historical models and data they have used to predict weather and seasonal changes in the area are rapidly becoming obsolete due to the extreme variations in the current state of the Arctic.

Specifically, the researchers noted that some parts of the Arctic were 36 degrees Fahrenheit hotter than expected, and that sea ice levels were at record lows for the three months proceeding the study, and are only expected to drop lower.

In fact, a study from the University of Hamburg conducted in 2020 predicted that the Arctic will have completely ice-free winters by 2050.
