Seth MacFarlane Says ‘Ted’ Season 2 Has Wrapped Filming. Will He Work on ‘The Orville’ Next?

Ted fans can get ready for more adventures with the drug-taking, foul-mouthed bear, as Seth MacFarlane
has revealed that filming on the second season has now wrapped. While this is great news, it does not mean that we will be seeing the results on screen just yet, as those who remember Ted’s first season will recall several months of post-production work being required to bring its titular character to life.

However, MacFarlane was delighted to share an update on the series’ continued production, with an X/Twitter post in which he said:

“Today we wrap production on TED SEASON 2! Thanks to our stellar writers, cast, and crew for all their amazing work on the funniest season yet!”

Ted is a prequel series to MacFarlane’s popular movie franchise, and goes back in time to when John Bennett (played by Mark Walhberg in the movies and Max Burkholder in the series) was a teenager in high school. This opened up a whole new playground for MacFarlane’s creation to wreak hilarious havoc in, and he did that so well that the reception to the series actually surpassed the movies.

While there has been no information revealed on what we can expect from Season 2, it is unlikely that MacFarlane will be messing with the format too much. There is plenty of scope to dip deeper into Ted’s impact on the Bennett family, including John’s parents, played by Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach, and his cousin, Blaire, played again by Giorgia Whigham. MacFarlane, who directs and produces the show, will also be back to voice Ted, of course.

Could Seth MacFarlane Return to ‘The Orville’ After ‘Ted 2’?

Seth MacFarlane is someone who has his niche in television. Dominating the adult animation market for years with Family Guy, American Dad, and several off-shoots, the one series that does not quite sit in the same arena as his other work is the sci-fi Star Trek homage, The Orville. Originally surprising fans who were expecting the series to parody the long-running franchise, The Orville very quickly established itself as a sincere and often emotional entity in its own right, even with several nods towards the William Shatner-starring series that serves as its main inspiration.

After two seasons at Fox, the company’s merger with Disney saw The Orville become one of the many properties caught in the flux, and although a third season, entitled The Orville: New Horizons, did make it to Disney+ in 2023, the future of the series has received mixed signals ever since. Some stars have hinted that a new season is on the cards, while others have claimed not to have heard anything.

Seth MacFarlane has brought us some of the most outrageous sitcoms ever; let’s take a look at some shows and films he put his stamp on.

It is clear that The Orville has a dedicated fan base out there, possibly one that is every bit as invested in the show as those who flocked to make Ted Peacock’s biggest original series when it debuted. With Ted’s initial production run now ended, could MacFarlane now turn his attention back towards another flight into space onboard The Orville? It is certainly a possibility after comments made by Scott Grimes, who also stars in that series with MacFarlane, last August.

While making an appearance at the Star Trek Las Vegas convention, Grimes was recorded announcing that The Orville would begin filming a new series “sometime after New Year.” With Ted’s wrap news suggesting that MacFarlane’s schedule could be free to work on something else very soon, this all does seem to tie in and give fans renewed hope of getting at least one more adventure onboard The Orville after all.
