Shahbaz Sharif s statement on promotion of Asim Munir…

The pakistan government on Tuesday (May 20, 2025) decided to promote army Chief General Asim Munir to Field Marshal after losing face with India. With this, he will become the second top military officer to be promoted to this post in the history of the country. According to the official statement, the decision to promote Munir was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by prime minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Munir is the first general to be promoted to the highest military post in pakistan after General Ayub Khan. General Khan was given the rank of Field Marshal in 1959. The Prime Minister’s office (PMO) said, “The government of pakistan has approved the promotion of General Asim Munir (Nishan-e-Imtiaz Military) to the rank of Field Marshal for ensuring the security of the country and defeating the enemy on the basis of high strategy and courageous leadership.

After Asim Munir was promoted to the highest military rank in pakistan, prime minister Shahbaz Sharif wrote on X “On behalf of the entire nation, I extend my heartiest congratulations to General Syed Asim Munir, NI(M) on his rightful promotion to the rank of Field Marshal. His exemplary leadership during Operation Banyan-um-Marsoos crushed the nefarious designs of the enemy and brought great honour to our motherland. Under his command, our valiant armed forces resolutely defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of pakistan with unity, courage and the highest standards of military professionalism.
