Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey Team Preparing For 2025-26 Season – Sheridan Media

The fall sports season has either started or is about to start in Wyoming, and even though it’s still summer, one winter sport is about to start play as well.

The Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey team started practice this past Monday (August 25th), in preparation for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

Among the players returning from last season is 2024 Big Horn High School graduate Kiefer Dunham, who says there’s a good number of players returning from last season, and the experience they bring has the potential to pay off.

“It’s huge. I think we’re sitting at 15 returning guys and that just makes mountains of difference moving into the season, just because the Frontier Division is a hard division to play in. There’s a lot of physicality and it takes a little bit to get used to, especially straight out of high school, so to have those returners coming back, it’s great.”

Sheridan placed 2nd last season in the NA3HL Frontier Division, but was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

Head Coach J.J. Santagata is also back with the team, which has 2 weeks to prepare for their first game.

He explains what needs to be accomplished in practice between now and then.

“The big theme for us right now is just learning to come together. Kind of our motto right now is ‘Walk Together, Not Alone.’ We got a lot of returners here, a lot of guys that have some lofty goals. They want to play NCAA hockey, they want to get to the NA and those goals can get mixed up with a lot of individual mind sets, so our goal right now and what we’re trying to accomplish for these first 2 weeks are just learning to walk together and not be alone, so we’re trying to build some comradery, we’re trying to get guys to really just gel and just try to get off the bats and just make everybody here a big family.”

The Hawks will play an inter-squad scrimmage on Saturday, August 30th at 7:30pm at the M&M Center.

The event is free and open to the public.

Sheridan will play their first 6 games of the regular season on the road, beginning on Friday and Saturday, September 5th and 6th at Rapid City.

The home opener is on Friday, September 26th at home vs. Rapid City.
