Shippers’ Academy Colombo to host Global Commerce Quiz Governor’s Challenge Trophy 2025 in June

  • Sixth edition of prestigious industry quiz trilogy coincides with 75th anniversary of Central Bank of Sri Lanka

In a vibrant celebration of intellect, industry knowledge and corporate camaraderie, Shippers’ Academy Colombo is set to host three major industry quiz competitions this year, drawing participation from leading corporates, banks, Government institutions, and academia. The signature event, the Global Commerce Quiz — returns for its sixth edition on 9 June, and carries special significance as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

The Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe will be the Chief Guest of the event and will award the Governor’s Challenge Trophy to the winning team, recognising excellence in business, economics, and global commerce. The quiz, organised biennially since 2011 with technical support from the Governor’s Office, has become a flagship event for fostering young corporate talent and promoting healthy competition among professionals.

Adding to the excitement are two additional quiz events. The Terminal Operator’s Cup, held in memory of the late Lalith Athulathmudali, is supported by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and other key terminal operators. Meanwhile, the ExIm and Logistics Quiz, organised in collaboration with the Export Development Board (EDB) of Sri Lanka, focuses on international trade, logistics, and export-import operations.

The International Quizzing Association – Sri Lanka branch will conduct all three quizzes independently, ensuring a fair, competitive, and intellectually stimulating environment. Organisers anticipate the participation of around 50 institutions, ranging from commercial banks to universities, reflecting the broad appeal and high standards of the competitions.

Previous editions have seen impressive performances from corporate giants such as People’s Bank, Seylan Bank, and DFCC Bank, who took top honours in the last edition. This year’s contests are expected to be even more intense, with exciting prizes and gifts awaiting the top contenders.

The awards ceremony will be graced by the Governor of the Central Bank, who is also expected to deliver a special address on the current state of the Sri Lankan economy — making it a key date on the calendar for both knowledge seekers and policy observers.
