Shopping for printer, Delhi CEO hires salesman as his next software coder
In an inspiring turn of events, a casual shopping trip turned into a life-changing moment for a salesman at an electronics store in Delhi. What started as a routine interaction between a customer and a store assistant ended with an unexpected job offer at a software company. Ankit Aggarwal, the founder and CEO of Unstop, took to LinkedIn to share the story of how he hired a front-end developer while purchasing a printer.
In his post, which has since gone viral, Aggarwal recounted his visit to Reliance Digital, where he met Sandeep, a salesman assisting him with his purchase.
“I hired someone while buying a printer! Sandeep at Reliance Digital assisted me with my purchase. As we spoke, he mentioned that he was upskilling to become a front-end developer,” Aggarwal wrote.
The Test That Changed Everything
Intrigued by Sandeep’s ambition, Aggarwal decided to give him an opportunity to showcase his skills. “Build a small app for us as an assignment,” he challenged him. Taking the task seriously, Sandeep worked diligently and delivered on the assignment. His dedication and effort paid off, and he secured a job as a front-end developer at Unstop.
Aggarwal emphasized that this wasn’t part of a structured hiring process but rather an organic opportunity that arose from a conversation. “No formal applications, just a real chance to showcase his skills,” he noted.
Highlighting the significance of recognizing talent in unconventional settings, Aggarwal added, “His passion and determination led him toward tech, and he was ready when the right opportunity came. Talent is everywhere. Sometimes, all it takes is a conversation.”
The Viral Reaction
The post resonated with many LinkedIn users, sparking discussions about networking and the importance of seizing opportunities. One user commented, “Networking is not about just connecting people. It’s about connecting people with people, people with ideas, and people with opportunities.”
Another user praised Aggarwal’s ability to spot talent, saying, “A founder is always hiring, Ankit! Always on the lookout for good talent.”
