Shubman Gill to be appointed as India’s vice-captain in T20I – India Test captain set to serve as Suryakumar Yadav’s deputy in Asia Cup 2025
After successfully leading the Indian team in the recently concluded Test tour of England, where India drew 2-2 against the hosts, Shubman Gill is all set to take part in the Asia Cup.
The multi-nation tournament will be conducted in the T20 format and will be held in UAE. India have been clubbed in Group A, alongside arch-rivals Pakistan.
While the squad is yet to be announced for the Asia Cup 2025, reports have emerged that India test captain Gill will be part of the travelling squad to UAE.

Now, Revsportz reports that Gill will also serve as deputy to India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav, as the star batter is all set to be appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian team in the shortest format.
There were doubts over SKY’s participation in the competition due to an injury problem, however, the Indian skipper has reportedly hit the nets as he is working on regaining full fitness ahead of the Asia Cup.

Shubman Gill to captain the Indian ODI side soon
The Revsportz report adds that the team management are considering handing the ODI captaincy to Gill soon, along with the responsibility of leading in the Test format.
Doubts have been raised over the participation of senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the 2027 ODI World Cup, which means that Gill could soon take charge of the ODI side, taking the responsibility from Sharma.

What next for Shubman Gill?
For now, Gill will focus on competing in the domestic setup after being named as the captain of North Zone in the Duleep Trophy, which will commence later this month.
Following his exploits in domestic cricket, he is expected to join the Indian side for the Asia Cup 2025.
