Saturday September 27, 2025

Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre on
Saturday received a senior Arab League delegation in Mogadishu, where the
regional body pledged to support the country’s education sector and strengthen
the teaching of Arabic.

The delegation, led by Zayd Al-Sabbaan, Director of the Horn
of Africa and Sudan Department at the Arab League, said the initiative was part
of broader efforts to boost cooperation with Somalia in politics, economics and
development.

Barre thanked the Arab League for what he described as
consistent support in diplomacy, education and state-building, as well as its
role in Somalia’s debt relief and economic recovery.

In a statement, the Arab League delegation commended
Mogadishu’s recent progress and emphasized the need to expand cooperation.

The Prime Minister’s office did not provide further details
on the scope or location of the education project.

The visit underscores the Arab League’s efforts to deepen
engagement with Somalia at a time when the government is seeking new
partnerships to strengthen institutions and rebuild a nation battered by
decades of conflict.
