Southampton Solent University biomedical degree reaccredited
Southampton Solent University’s BSc (Hons) biomedical science degree has been reaccredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).
This makes it the only institution in the city with this endorsement.
The reaccreditation lasts for five years and follows the university’s investment in a new biomedical laboratory.

The university also received high scores in the 2024 National Student Survey.
The reaccreditation highlights the course’s relevance in the field of biomedical science.
The course continues to adapt and evolve to meet contemporary trends and requirements.
Course leader in biomedical science at Solent, Dr Jamil Jubrail, said: “We couldn’t be happier to have been reaccredited by the IBMS.

Dr Jubrail also noted the importance of the IBMS accreditation for students.
He said: “IBMS accreditation gives our course a unique selling point, and is essential for our students, allowing them to graduate and immediately enter the workplace.
“The support from the IBMS for our course has been fantastic and we are excited to continue to work with them as the course grows and develops further.”
The accreditation also ensures that course graduates have the opportunity to be registered by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
This enhances their career pathways and enables them to become fully qualified biomedical scientists.
Southampton Solent University’s medical sciences courses were ranked first for academic support, second for teaching, and third for learning resources out of 95 institutions in the 2024 National Student Survey.
With the reaccreditation, Southampton Solent University continues to equip future scientists with the skills required to address pressing scientific questions of today.
