Sports running festival took place in Ashgabat in honor of the Europe Day and the International Year of Peace and Trust
More than 500 participants of all ages took to the starting line today in a festive and inclusive atmosphere for mass races held in Ashgabat.
This vibrant event, organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Turkmenistan, the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports, and the Ashgabat City Khakimlik, was dedicated to the celebration of the Europe Day as well as the International Year of Peace and Trust, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in March 2024 at the initiative of our country. This global recognition highlights the importance of developing peaceful relations and strengthening trust among nations. It is very gratifying that this sports running festival has become a reflection of these values, uniting people through sport, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, and strengthening the spirit of togetherness.
The mass races included three distances designed for a wide range of participants: 2 km—for families and children from 6 years old, and 5 km and 10 km—for more experienced runners. The routes were carefully laid out around Independence Park—one of the central and symbolic places of the capital—providing participants with a well-organized and scenic race.
Besides the competitions, the event included a number of additional activities that enhanced the festive atmosphere. There were fun contests for children and families, as well as lively music from a DJ, creating a truly dynamic and joyful atmosphere and making the event unforgettable for all participants.
The mass sports running festival became a vivid example of the strong partnership between the European Union and Turkmenistan, based on shared values and the pursuit of peace, health, and unity in society.
