Leapmotor is going to enter India soon.

Stellantis will be bringing Leapmotor to the Indian market. Leapmotor is a Chinese EV startup which makes budget EVs. Stallantis wanted to bring Leap Motor quite a while back to the Indian market the plans were delayed. It will be brought to India as Leapmotor International as a joint venture of 51:49 joint venture.

Their initial plans will be to bring CKD unit of their vehicles and soon indulging into localization of parts and produce in India itself. The lineup consist of smaller cars and SUVs as well. There is currently no clarity on how Stellantis will go about the brand in India and we are presuming that they will use their existing showrooms and network to operate.

“We’re excited to announce the entry of Leapmotor brand in India. We look forward to bringing premium EVs to India’s upwardly mobile consumers,” said Shailesh Hazela, CEO and MD of Stellantis India.

India is a big market for upcoming EVs and Vinfast, which is a Vietnamese EV maker has also stepped into the Indian market and they will be selling and producing cars in India soon. There are quite a few other manufacturers who are trying to indulge in this genre and many brands have had their success regarding the EV space in India.

Stellantis as a whole has been struggling globally and especially in India. Their brands, Jeep, Citroen and Maserati are among the lowest sellers in their respective segments. We are not sure if the introduction of Leapmotors will help them out in anyway but it will certainly help them get more customers being interested in their brand.
