Steven Spielberg’s New UFO Movie Hyped By Writer David Koepp
Steven Spielberg is set to return to the science fiction genre for the first time since 2018’s Ready Player One with The Dish, a new movie written by David Koepp. The screenwriter recently opened up about The Dish and why fans should look forward to the new Spielberg feature.
Koepp briefly touched on collaborating with Spielberg on his new movie, The Dish, while speaking with TheWrap about the 25th anniversary of his movie Stir of Echoes (which he wrote and directed). “I am so not allowed to say anything,” Koepp said, joking that “I think deep down, it bothers Steven that I’ve read the script.” The screenwriter also confirmed a recent production report stating that The Dish, which is the movie’s working title, would begin production in February 2025, with principal photography scheduled to take place in Atlanta, Georgia.

How Steven Spielberg Ensured the Saving Private Ryan Cast Would Hate Matt Damon
Thanks to Steven Spielberg’s out-of-the-box thinking, he was abe to blur the line between truth and fiction while making Saving Private Ryan.
The Dish is the first Koepp script that Spielberg has directed since 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the fourth installment in the beloved action-adventure series starring Harrison Ford. While Koepp continued not to reveal any concrete details about the movie, he opened up about how the project came together. “It’s great because it’s an original. It was his idea, his story and working on originals is really fun,” Koepp said. “It’s not that different from Presence in that OK, you have an idea, you can’t help but think, Oh, what other movies might this be like? Just to kind of get your bearings, you’re not trying to imitate them. You’re just, Where does this fit in my cinema knowledge?”
He continued, “And then you’re solving the demands and problems of that kind of movie. You’re still just texting and emailing back and forth with the director a lot, and doing rewrites and trying to get it right, and then you make it and whether it’s $2 million budget or $100 million, it’s the same.”
Who Stars in The Dish?
The Dish will be headlined by Emily Blunt, who recently appeared in Christopher Nolan’s 2023 biopic Oppenheimer and David Leitch’s 2024 action rom-com The Fall Guy. Rounding out the ensemble cast for the sci-fi movie are Josh O’Connor, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell, Colin Firth, and Eve Hewson.

Ahead of The Dish, Spielberg and Koepp collaborated on the new Jurassic Park movie, Jurassic World Rebirth. Koepp wrote the screenplay, while Spielberg produced the Gareth Edwards-directed standalone sequel to Jurassic World Dominion. Rebirth marks Koepp’s return to the Jurassic franchise for the first time since scripting the two Spielberg-helmed movies, 1993’s Jurassic Park and 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park. When asked what brought him back to the franchise, Koepp explained, “The idea of starting afresh. You don’t often get that chance where they give you very few guidelines, except there must be dinosaurs in it.” Jurassic World Rebirth is set to hit theaters this summer.
The Dish is scheduled to hit theaters on May 15, 2026.
