Students Explore Labs At Asunción’s Science Week 2025

Secondary school students are invited to participate in the twelfth edition of Science Week 2025 (SeCien). The event, running from July 29, to Thursday 31 July, offers an interactive, engaging, and interdisciplinary learning experience. Students can visit the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences of the National University of Asunción (FACEN-UNA) in San Lorenzo between 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM. Attendance is free of charge.

Since its inception, SeCien has drawn thousands of students. In 2024, the event welcomed 6,000 students to FACEN’s facilities. Attendees toured the facilities, explored available degree programmes, visited laboratories, participated in experiments, and interacted with various scientific disciplines.

A history of student engagement

Science Week 2025, an initiative of FACEN-UNA, has run consistently since 2013. The event offers teachers and students from educational institutions across the country the opportunity to explore scientific research, learn about academic offerings, and engage in scientific activities. Didactic games and interactive experiments designed by researchers, teachers, and students will enhance the experience.

Participating in Science Week 2025 will allow teachers to network with peers and members of the university community. It aims to foster student interest in science and mathematics.

Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences

The National University of Asunción (UNA), founded in 1889, is Paraguay’s oldest university, with the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences (FACEN) serving as a cornerstone for scientific education and research. When the university first started, it consisted of only the Faculties of Law, Medicine and Mathematics, and schools of Clerical, Pharmacy and Obstetrics.

As part of UNA’s 12 faculties in 2025, FACEN provides undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in fields such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and related disciplines.
