On Friday, April 25th, Len Albrecht, head coach of Superior girls’ soccer, earned his 100th career win as the Spartans defeated Rice Lake.
Albrecht has coached Superior girls’ soccer for fifteen years, and said he looks back to all the teams and players he’s coached throughout those years.
“When my daughter found out, she was on the team the first year I started coaching. She made the comment of; it’s kind of cool that I was part of the 100 victories in that first year. So again, there’s so many girls through the years that have been part of that, getting to that 100 victories between all the different players over 15 years. I’ve had numerous coaches over 15 years that all took part of that, and all should get credit for it also. You know, it’s not just a coach, it’s just players,” said Albrecht.
The win was made even more special as the Spartans began the game in a 2-0 deficit to Rice Lake, before scoring 6 unanswered goals to take the win.
This 2025 squad celebrated alongside Albrecht, sharing their love for their head coach.
“He always has our backs and can always do the best in every situation, and I think that’s really what brings him up and the coaching staff,” said senior captain Brynn Johnson.
“I’ve played soccer for a long time and he’s the first coach that I can really tell that he cares about each and every one of us,” said junior captain Kate Porter. “And also, just after the games, he’s always motivating us or if we’re losing, he knows how to pick us up and tell us to keep going because he just wants the best for us and I really do believe that.”
Superior earned Albrecht’s 101st career win on Saturday, May 3rd against Chippewa Falls, and will continue searching for more wins as the season progresses. Click here to view their full season schedule.
