Retro, the recently released Tamil film starring actor Suriya in the lead role, has entered the 100-crore at the box office collection, the makers announced on social media on Tuesday. The film has collected worldwide Rs 104 crore within a week of its release.

Actor Suriya, who is known for his versatile roles like in Pithamagan and Ghajini , paired up with filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj for the first time with Retro. The action drama released in theatres on May 1, and opened to mixed reviews. On Tuesday, the makers announced that Retro has entered the 100-crore club, with the film collected Rs 104 crore at the box office worldwide.
Retro is an action drama that stars Beast actor Pooja Hegde as the female lead, along with Joju George, Jayaram, Karunakaran, Nasser and others in prominent roles. The story is that of the Chosen One, the one who gets adopted by a gangster and chooses to leave his violent ways to live a peaceful life with his lover. However, as fate has it, he is brought back to his roots where the prophecy has to be completed by him.

The post-theatrical streaming rights of the film have been bagged by Netflix. The streaming giant announced as part of its south content slate earlier this year. However, a streaming date is yet to be announced by the makers. Retro has music by Santhosh Narayanan and camera cranked by Shreyaas Krishna. Suriya and Jyotika have bankrolled the film under their banner 2D Entertainment.
Meanwhile, after Retro, Suriya’s next projects include one with filmmaker-actor RJ Balaji, which is tentatively called Suriya 45. The actor also recently announced that he will be pairing up with Venky Atluri for a new film. More details are awaited.
