SyncSpotlight returns to Sandy Springs on April 5 for the second year, a conference that connects musicians and filmmakers for music placements in films, TV, ads, and video games.
It features panels with music supervisors, sync agents, and industry professionals, and showcases music from attendees. Last year, 250 participants attended, including 40 students, Mathew Steele, the CEO of SteeleSync/SyncSpotlight told Rough Draft Atlanta.
“A sync is anytime music is used in a visual format. So that could be a major film, an independent film. It could be an ad or commercial for Reebok or Nike,” Steele said.
SyncSpotlight has two creative panels and two music business panels for music supervisors and those professionals who have the authority to write checks for music for film and television, Steele said.
Major recording artists Sam Tinnesz and Tommee Profitt will speak on the Sync Legends panel. Both have amassed billions of streams and more than 300 sync placements each. Music supervisors Joel C. High and Ashley Tamar will join the panels. High recently supervised “The Six Triple Eight” on Netflix. Tamar worked on “Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip Hop,” also on Netflix.
The event will also feature Grammy-winning producer/composer Ken Lewis, who has worked with major artists such as BTS, Taylor Swift, and Kanye West. Heather Cook will join the “On the Women in Music” panel. Cook, a veteran of the music industry, has worked with top brands like Apple and Target and had her music featured in Super Bowl commercials for the past two years.
Steele said during SyncSpotlight, they play music from the creative side – composers, singer-songwriters, singers, rappers, band members, and others – to pitch the music.
SyncSpotlight invites producers, filmmakers, music supervisors, and sync agents, people involved in music publishing to attend.
Steele said typically when a film or ad is in post-production, they add music as a final touch. That’s when SyncSpotlight tries to get placements in the post-production process, he said.
“You’ve to have the music to sell the music, and then you’ve got to have the connection to buy the music,” Steele said.
SyncSpotlight brings the buyers and creatives together for two days in conferences, panels and networking. This year it will open to virtual attendees to enable people who can’t travel to attend.
A pre-networking event will be held April 4 from 5 to 10 p.m. at Rehearse Live, 2365 Pleasantdale Road, Atlanta. The event will enable SyncSpotlight participants to pick up badges early and network.
SyncSpotlight begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, at the Studio Theatre at 1 Galambos Way, Sandy Springs. Tickets are available on Eventbrite from $50 to $450.
An after-party will be held at Battle & Brew at 5920 Roswell Road, Suite A-120, Sandy Springs, from 10 p.m. to midnight. The event has limited space with room for the first 75 badge holders.
