Synology steps up India focus in growth push – Industry News
Taiwan-based data storage firm Synology has identified India amongst its key growth markets within the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, a top company official told FE in a one-on-one interaction. A combination of factors including a strong base of small and medium businesses as well as a growing list of large enterprise clients has seen the company log sales growth of about 30% annually in India over the last few years, Joanne Weng, director of international business at Synology, said.
The company is likely to introduce more enterprise storage solutions in the future integrating AI and machine learning and may also set up an India sales office in the next few years, Weng said. “While an India R&D centre is still under discussion, an India sales office may happen sooner,” she said underscoring India’s importance in Synology’s larger scheme of things. Weng declined to specify Synology’s actual revenue in India, claiming it was the fifth within the markets she handled (APAC and Middle East-Africa).
For perspective, Synology, which is a privately held company, founded by ex-Microsoft employees Cheen Liao and Philip Wong in 2000, counts the US and Germany amongst its top two global markets. Within the APAC region, its key markets include China, Australia, Korea, Japan and South East Asia, besides its home base of Taiwan.
As far as India goes, Synology has been operating in the domestic market since 2009, largely through local distributors and channel partners located across the country. Its product portfolio includes data storage and backup, file collaboration, video surveillance and network infrastructure solutions. Clients are present across diverse sectors such as media & entertainment, manufacturing and government among other segments.
“India is a fast-growing market for us and one that has significant potential given that the economy is booming here. There is infrastructure development that is happening and global players are investing in India. Firms both big and small require tools to power IT, which is the backbone of any business. We are focused on providing these solutions,” she said of the firm, whose chairman and CEO is Philip Wong. Weng is the daughter of Wong and has been associated with the firm for close to a decade.
At the Computex 2025, a global tech exhibition held annually in Taipei in May-June, Synology unveiled a lineup of data management solutions. These included enterprise-grade data storage and protection solutions (PAS7700 & ActiveProtect DP7200) to video surveillance products (such as C2 Surveillance), productivity tools (ChatPlus & Synology Meet), and personal cloud solutions (BeeStation Plus).
Most of these products will be introduced in India as part of the company’s global rollout programme in the second half of calendar 2025, Weng said, to ensure users in the country do not miss out on key updates and launches from the firm.
