Taiwan’s Strategic Push to Attract Indian Golf Tourists in Eastern India, ETTravelWorld

Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) is ramping up its destination marketing in India with a renewed focus on golf tourism and regional expansion. Following strong post-pandemic engagement in the Indian market, Taiwan is aiming to solidify its position by promoting its golf offerings to high-net-worth individuals (HNIs) and corporate travellers.

The initiative is part of TTA’s wider effort to diversify its outreach beyond North, South, and West India. With a new roadshow held in Kolkata on 16 July, Taiwan officially extended its destination promotions to East India, targeting new partnerships with travel agencies and regional stakeholders.

Paul Shih, Director of the TTA Singapore Office, which oversees India operations, said: “Taiwan boasts of a great golfing legacy that dates back over 100 years. Our first golf course was established in 1919, and today we have over 70 golf courses spread across the country.” He cited venues like Ta Shee Golf & Country Club, Taiwan Golf & Country Club, and Miramar Golf & Country Club as key assets in their promotion.

TTA is positioning Taiwan as a luxury golf destination, with packages designed to attract corporate groups and incentive travellers. The campaigns aim to blend golf with luxury resorts, wellness experiences, high-end shopping, and Taiwanese culinary offerings.

Shih added, “Through the promotion of golf tourism and such luxury products, the industry will see us actively target India’s high-end corporate travellers, particularly those in the C-suite, by offering incentives and making it easier for them to visit and explore Taiwan.”

The golf tourism initiative ties into Taiwan’s broader global campaign, “TAIWAN – Waves of Wonder,” which was launched earlier this year. According to TTA, Indian visitor arrivals to Taiwan grew by 20.81% in 2024, following targeted re-entry into the market in January that year.

With a combination of trade events, digital storytelling, and incentives for international visitors, Taiwan hopes to increase visibility, build long-term partnerships, and drive tourism from India’s emerging regions.
