Tanvi The Great: After Madhya Pradesh, Delhi Government Announces Anupam Kher Film As Tax Free In State

Veteran actor Anupam Kher made his return to Tanvi the Great on July 18, 2025, the same day as Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s romantic drama Saiyaara. While the Mohit Suri directorial emeged as box office hit, Tanvi the Great opened to a mixed response from both audiences and critics. However, the film recently generated boost in visibility and support after being declared tax-free in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Now, the Delhi Government has also declared it tax-free in the state.

The announcement came after Anupam Kher met with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at her official residence in Delhi. Gupta took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and wrote, “I am pleased to share that the Delhi Government has declared the film ‘Tanvi the Great’ tax-free in the state. With an impactful narrative of inclusion, the film is an inspiring story of a young, ‘special’ girl-Tanvi, who is determined to achieve her dreams against all odds. “

She added, “Tanvi’s story is emotional and inspirational. We are committed to promote films that strengthens the spirit of Rashtra Seva, ignites patriotism, and awakens the conscience of the nation. Best wishes to the entire team of the film.”

The DDLJ actor later shared the news on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, expressing his gratitude toward the CM.

In a heartfelt post, Kher wrote, We are deeply touched hon. Chief Minister of Delhi Smt. @gupta_rekha ji by your kind and generous gesture of making our film #TanviTheGreat TAX FREE in Delhi! Your magnanimity will help us spread the message of our film to the wider audience! Thanks a lot.”

About Tanvi: The Great

Tanvi: The Great is co-written by Anupam Kher, Ankur Suman, and Abhishek Dixit. The film’s music has been composed by Oscar-winning maestro MM Keeravani. It tells the powerful story of Tanvi, a 21-year-old autistic woman determined to honour her late father’s dream by joining the Indian Army. The lead role is played by Shubhangi Dutt, while Kher also appears in a significant role.

The film boasts a strong ensemble cast including Boman Irani, Arvind Swami, Jackie Shroff, Pallavi Joshi, and Karan Tacker. While currently screening in cinemas, Tanvi: The Great is expected to stream on Netflix in the coming months, although an official digital release date has not yet been confirmed.
