Tanzanian firms display fresh produce in global trade fair

Dar es Salaam. A total of 26 Tanzanian companies engaging in the agriculture sector are participating in the Fruit Logistic 2025 Exhibition to promote the local fresh produce.

The global trade fair is taking place from February 5 to 7 this year in Berlin, Germany.

The companies are led by the Cereals and Other Produce Regulatory Authority (Copra) and the Tanzania Horticultural Association (Taha).

Fruit Logistica is one of the most influential global trade fairs for the fresh produce industry, attracting over 135 countries and thousands of exhibitors and buyers. 

The event serves as a premier platform for international trade linkages, investment opportunities, and knowledge exchange in the fresh produce sector.

Tanzania has participated in this fair before, but for the first time, the newly established institution (Copra) and the regulatory authority responsible for structured markets in horticulture will actively participate and lead a delegation.

 According to a statement released by Copra, the Tanzania pavilion includes stakeholders in the avocado value chain and the Building a Better Tomorrow (BBT) youth programme, as well as Taha members in the spices, fruits, and vegetable sectors.

 “This event provides a compelling opportunity to cover Copra’s pivotal role in expanding global market access for Tanzanian horticultural products,” said Copra director general, Ms Irene Mlola.

Ms Mlola added that the expected outcome and impact include new trade partnerships facilitated by Tanzanian exporters and international buyers. They also expect to get market insights and policy recommendations to drive investment in Tanzania’s fresh produce sector.

Statistics show that Tanzania’s total horticultural crop production in 2023/2024 reached 174,904.81 metric tonnes, with an export value of over $253.8 million, reinforcing the sector’s role as a key driver of economic growth.

In the 2024/2025 financial year, the Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with various agricultural stakeholders, has set ambitious targets to bolster the nation’s horticultural sector.

A key strategy involves enhancing market access through active participation in international trade shows, aiming for a six percent increase in overall horticultural crop production.

The collaborative effort between Copra and Taha exemplifies a public-private partnership (PPP) that aims to enhance Tanzania’s global market presence.

For his part, the Avocado Society of Tanzania (ASTA) representative, Mr John Mabagala, said the local farmers expect Tanzania’s finest agricultural products to be effectively branded in global markets, enhancing their recognition and positioning Tanzania as a key player in international trade.
