Taylor Swift has officially regained ownership of her entire music catalog, sending shockwaves through the music industry and delighting her fans worldwide.
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter announced the milestone on Friday via a heartfelt letter posted to her official website, confirming she had purchased the rights to her masters from Shamrock Capital.
According to Daily Mail, Shamrock Capital had previously acquired the catalog from Scooter Braun, whose company Ithaca Holdings initially bought Swift’s early work from Big Machine Records in 2019—a move that Swift publicly opposed at the time.
Moreover, the recent deal marks the culmination of Swift’s years-long battle to reclaim control of her artistic legacy.
In regards to this, Swift wrote, “To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it. All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me.”
Additionally, she went on to emphasize that the deal includes not just the albums, but also her music videos, concert films, unreleased tracks, and visual assets—a complete reclamation of her life’s work.
While the financial details remain confidential, sources close to the negotiations suggest the final figure was near the $360 million Shamrock initially paid, disputing previous estimates of up to $1 billion.
Despite the historic nature of the announcement, Swift chose to celebrate in a characteristically understated way.
A 14-second clip posted by longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff to social media platform X showed the duo singing their 2017 track Getaway Car inside a cozy kitchen.
Furthermore, the video captured a candid moment of joy, with Swift dressed down in a sweatshirt and shorts, holding her cat Meredith before energetically singing along to the lyrics.
It is worth mentioning that Antonoff, who has co-produced multiple Swift albums—including 1989, Reputation, Lover, Folklore, Evermore, and Midnights, captioned the clip as, “rep forever guilt free listening!”
