Team USA can no longer dominate basketball, hats off to Germany – Tempo – The Nation’s Fastest Growing Newspaper

The game of basketball has certainly evolved throughout the years in almost all parts of the globe and USA’s loss at the hand of Germany is a testament to that.

Team USA Steve Kerr readily agreed.

Kerr believed the world has already caught up with the USA and that it cannot anymore dominate the way it used to be in the past

“It means the game has been globalized over the last 30 years or so. These games are difficult. This is not 1992,” said Kerr as the world No.2 Americans suffered a shocking 113-111 loss against Germany.

USA still remained with the most number of titles with five – the the last of which came in the 2014 edition.

But since then, the Americans never came close at winning the title against bowing out in the quarterfinals in 2019, finishing seventh overall and now, either third or fourth depending on the outcome of its clash against Canada.

“Players are better all over the world, teams are better. It’s not easy to win a World Cup or the Olympics,” shared Kerr.

Kerr also tipped his hats off to Germany who he believed did a good job in keeping the Americans at bay especially towards the end of the contest.

“They were fantastic. They deserve to win. Every time we make a run, they hit big shots or get an offensive board and make the big play. They did what they had to do,” said Kerr who also rued the Americans’ lackluster defense especially against Andreas Obst and Dennis Schroder.

“That was the main point of the loss, we weren’t ever able to make them feel us defensively. I give Dennis Schroder a ton of credit, he’s a really tough guard to handle, he’s quick, he can get the ball and penetrate constantly and that compromises your defense. We also made some mistakes,” he noted.
