Tesla has officially begun deliveries of the Model Y in India, marking a major milestone for the company’s long-awaited entry into one of the world’s biggest auto markets. The news was shared today by Tesla India (@Tesla_India) on X, celebrating the handover of its first customer vehicles.
The move comes just months after Tesla opened its first Indian Experience Center in Mumbai back in July, launching orders for the Model Y at the same time. Since then, the automaker has expanded its footprint in the country with a second showroom in New Delhi, along with several new Supercharger stations to support early adopters. More retail outlets and service centers are already planned as Tesla looks to establish a foothold in the world’s third-largest auto market and one of the fastest-growing regions for EV adoption.
For now, Tesla is only offering the Model Y in India, in two configurations. The entry-level Model Y RWD is priced at ₹5,989,000 INR (about $67,500 USD), while the Model Y Long Range RWD costs ₹6,789,000 INR (about $76,500 USD). Deliveries of the RWD Model Y are now underway, with the Long Range RWD scheduled to arrive in Q4 2025.
Tesla is importing the vehicles from its Gigafactory in Shanghai, China, as it ramps up its presence in India. The company has long eyed the country as a crucial market for growth, and with deliveries now beginning at scale, Tesla is taking its biggest step yet toward competing in a region dominated by both legacy automakers and homegrown EV startups.
The expansion underscores Tesla’s broader strategy of scaling globally, following recent market pushes across Southeast Asia and the Middle East. If demand in India proves strong, it could open the door to localized production and further investment from the EV maker.
