Thailand to host major ‘IMF-World Bank Summit’ in 2026

The event will welcome over 400 finance ministers and central bank governors worldwide.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand was selected to host the 2026 Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Phichai Chunhavachira chaired a subcommittee meeting on protocol and operations to prepare for the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank (AM2026), scheduled for October 12–18, 2026, in Bangkok. The meeting included representatives from related agencies.

Minister Phichai stated that the government aims to use this opportunity to showcase Thailand’s capabilities in economic strength, management, and infrastructure readiness as a global conference hub. AM2026 is considered one of the most important global economic and financial forums.

Sudruetai Lertkasem, Director-General of the Public Relations Department, joined the meeting as part of the communications working group. She proposed strategies to ensure clear, inclusive messaging across various platforms. The plan will integrate traditional, online, and outdoor media, building on lessons from hosting the APEC summit in 2022.

Domestic awareness will also be a focus. The Public Relations Department will coordinate with the Bank of Thailand and partner networks to help Thai audiences understand the benefits of hosting the summit.

The event will welcome over 400 finance ministers and central bank governors worldwide. More than 12,000 participants—including leaders from international financial institutions, thought leaders, and academics—are expected to attend. This will be the second time Thailand has hosted this global summit, making it one of only three countries ever given this honor twice. (NNT)
