Being the centre of fashion and furniture, Milan is the place where JJ Martin, designer of hyper-patterned clothing and tableware, has chosen to make her home. The California native, 52, whose famous friends include Gwyneth Paltrow and Elle Macpherson, is celebrating ten years of her brand, La DoubleJ, by launching the extravagantly ornate Napoli Rosa range of porcelain, glass and linens.

After 25 years living in the city, Martin says her favourite thing is its love of eccentricity. “There is real support for people’s individual style. It’s normal to be kind of an eccentric weirdo here.”
