The Museum of Science and Technology hosted inaugural Earth Day Festival in Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The MOST– also known as the Museum of Science and Technology– hosted its inaugural Earth Day festival today, in celebration of the upcoming holiday.

This is part of the museum’s earth month, which runs throughout April.

There was rain to begin the festivities– but that kind of fits with theme:

Without water, nothing would grow.

The event took place in armory square, on the museum’s east lawn. It shut down traffic with hands-on activity booths, food trucks, music, and more.

The bond between Sam White and her son Sylas is rock solid!

Neighbor Sam White told us, “It makes me proud to know my love of the earth has been passed down to my son for sure.”

They travel around their neighborhood in East Syracuse picking up trash to keep their community clean. So, when they heard about the Earth Day Festival event through Facebook they couldn’t take this chance for “granite” — they decided to bring along their friend Oliver.

President of the MOST Lauren Kochian: It’s not only about teaching kids and visitors and passersby about the environment and climate change and environment science but it really also is a celebration of our planet.”

The New York Animal Agricultural Coalition and the American Dairy Association Northeast also joined in on the fun, showcasing a 53-foot Mobile Dairy Experience. The exhibit teaches about the dairy-making process, and how farmers in the region are trying to make their operations greener.

First Associate NY State Dairy Ambassador Addison Brown said, “So we take all the moisture out of manure and make it kind of into a powdery dust so that we can re-use it as bedding so that’s it’s sustainable for our environment.”

They even brought out a few-day old calf named Peanut, who was a hit with the kids.

NY State Dairy Ambassador Olivia Shawley said, “Having Peanut out here is a great way to connect with people about dairy and the animals and specifically educate them on what we work with everyday which is cattle and you know it’s a great way to lure consumers in with a cute little calf and share our knowledge about it.”

Earth Day is Tuesday, April 22nd this year.

There are community cleanups taking place all around our region.
