The Overworld Unfolds in A Minecraft Movie ScreenX Poster

In April, A Minecraft Movie will be dropping in movie theaters. Coming ahead of the video game adaptation’s debut, CBR can exclusively reveal the ScreenX poster for the film.

In the poster, a message reads, “The Overworld unfolds in ScreenX.” A Creeper, villager, and some of the blocky creatures from the world of Minecraft can also be seen, standing by the portal that brings people from the real world into the magical land of crafting. A new trailer has also been released for the film, which will be officially releasing in movie theaters on April 4, 2025. Both the new poster and trailer can be seen below.

The film is directed by Jared Hess, and it features an ensemble cast that includes Jack Black (The Cable Guy), Jason Momoa (Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom), Emma Myers (Wednesday), Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), Sebastian Hansen (Lisey’s Story), and Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus).

Welcome to the World of Minecraft

The official synopsis for the movie reads, “Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival! Four misfits—Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.”

Sanrio’s popular Hello Kitty arrives in Minecraft in a fresh trailer, spotlighting her friends, seasonal events and over 180 new furniture options.

Momoa is producing alongside Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Jill Messick, Torfi Frans Olafsson, and Vu Bui. Executive producers include Todd Hallowell, Kayleen Walters, Brian Mendoza, Jonathan Spaihts, Pete Chiappetta, Andrew Lary, and Anthony Tittanegro.

Jack Black Played Minecraft to Prepare for Playing Steve

“An actor prepares, so, I have literally been exclusive to Minecraft for the last month and a half,” Black previously told IGN about how he prepared to play Steve. “All Minecraft, all the time. I’m in a little movie called Minecraft – I don’t want to brag, but it’s kind of a big deal. Just Stevin’ it up in the Minecraft universe. Getting back into it, because I did I did play years ago, because my kids were super-duper into it, and I wanted to speak their language. So, I studied hard, and I learned, and I was getting really into it, building houses and tunneling around. And now I’m getting back into it. It’s pretty rad.”

A Minecraft Movie will hit movie theaters on April 4, 2025.
