The top 10 best movie sequels of all time – three from the same franchise | Films | Entertainment

Rotten Tomatoes has revealed the top 10 best movie sequels of all time, with the films ranging in genres from musicals to thrillers, and Sci-fi to comedies. The review website packaged the list based on films that received a high scoring according to its Tomatometer, which is the precentage of positive reviews from professional critics.

The website highlighted that “a sequel follows up on a previous movie, typically by continuing or expanding the story with the same characters, set further in time”. The top 10 was taken from a longer list that revealed the top 100, and includes a diverse range of film fan favourites, such as Star Trek, Creed and even Toy Story 4.

However, the first one on the list, with a Tomatometer score of 80%, is the 2018 gem Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. The musical comedy marks themes of adventure and love and, of course, has an incredible soundtrack.

The critics consensus says: “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again doubles down on just about everything fans loved about the orginial and my my, how can fans resist it?”

The Jewish Chronicle wrote that the film is “as impressive, if not better than the original.”

Back to the Future Part III also made the successful list, with a score of 79%. The trilogy created by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale was one of the earliest modern film trilogies with interconnected storylines, and it still has a huge impact in cinema and popular culture today.

The critics consensus for part three says “Back to the Future draws the trilogy to a satsifying close with a simpler, sweeter round of time-travel antics”.
