The Wight Music Experience officially opens in Newport

The Wight Music Experience, on the upper floor of Triple A Records in Newport, celebrates the Island’s vibrant music scene through thousands of exhibits.

These include artefacts from iconic festivals and contemporary artists such as Wet Leg and Coach Party.

The museum was officially opened by Ray Foulk, co-promoter of the legendary Isle of Wight festivals of 1968, 1969 and 1970, which drew massive crowds for performances by artists including Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and Bob Dylan.

Ray Foulk and Peter HarriganRay Foulk and Peter Harrigan (Image: Supplied) Jonathan Bacon, co-founder of the Wight Music Experience, said: “The proper archiving and display of the wealth of Island music history is long overdue.

“This is the beginning of our project which in celebrating the rich musical history of the Island will also hopefully revive memories and inspire future generations of Island musicians.”

The museum features vintage posters, t-shirts, vinyl records, and even a sleeping bag from the 1970 festival.

It is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm.

A second exhibition space is set to open soon in Ryde Arcade.
