This 2000s Disney Icon Just Hinted She’s Releasing Music For The First Time In 9 Years

This Disney Channel star seems ready to take on the music industry again after almost a decade. Pop culture has been flooded with nostalgia in recent years, with various 2000s stars stepping back into the spotlight and 2000s shows and movies rebooting. It’s no surprise some 2000s singers are ready to relaunch their music careers, too.

For example, in March, 2000s icon Jessica Simpson released her first studio album in fifteen years. A year earlier, her sister, Ashlee Simpson, celebrated the 20th anniversary of her first studio album Autobiography, releasing the Expanded Edition on streaming. However, one 2000s icon who has yet to join in the nostalgia fun seems ready to finally contribute.

Duff Is Seemingly Working On New Music Again

For Mother’s Day, Hilary Duff’s husband, Matthew Koma, shared a lengthy post on Instagram celebrating his wife. The carousel included 20 photos with a long caption about how incredible a mother she is. However, what caught fans’ attention most was the ninth photo in Koma’s carousel and the way he ended his caption. The photo showed Duff in the music studio, wearing headphones and sitting near a microphone. Koma concluded his caption, writing, “Now please go save millennial pop music, it needs you now more than ever.

The comment section was quickly flooded with Duff fans excited about her coming back to music. The singer and actress is often credited as the blueprint for the Disney star turned pop star (or ex-act). Duff achieved massive success on Disney Channel with her 2001 hit show Lizzie McGuire. After a successful theatrical film, The Lizzie McGuire Movie, Duff continued to act while also putting out music. The star released four studio albums before taking an eight-year break and dropping Breathe In, Breathe Out in 2015.

Disney Channel movies and shows have been known to produce some big stars, with actors like Zendaya and Ryan Gosling proving to be quite successful.

However, Duff has not released another album since. In the meantime, her A Cinderella Story costar, Chad Michael Murray, made his big comeback in late 2024, starring in Netflix’s The Merry Gentleman. Duff’s former Disney rival Lindsay Lohan has also found herself back in the spotlight, starring in multiple Netflix films from 2022 through 2024. Murray and Lohan will come together onscreen again this summer for Freakier Friday, a sequel to their 2003 film Freaky Friday. With so much nostalgia running through the air, it’s a perfect time for the “So Yesterday” singer to step back into the scene.

Duff Is Now Signed With CAA

Aside from Koma’s Instagram post, Deadline recently reported that Hilary Duff signed with the talent agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA). This is a strong sign that she has something big planned for her career. Duff’s most recent work includes the How I Met Your Mother spin-off series, How I Met Your Father, which was sadly canceled after only two seasons. However, she also starred in the successful TV Land series Younger, which ran for seven seasons.

In the last few years, Duff has laid low, mostly focusing on her family. However, according to her husband’s Instagram post and her recent CAA signing, she’s ready to get back to work. Another sign that the star is ready to make music again is that the official Hilary Duff Spotify page recently became verified. It seems unusual that this would happen if she didn’t have something planned for her music career.

What Could Duff’s New Music Sound Like?

Duff Has Experimented With Various Genres In Her Career

Hilary Duff’s catalog is fairly diverse, from early 2000s pop rock to more bubble gum pop songs. While Metamorphosis is typically thought to be Duff’s first studio album, her first was actually her Christmas record, Santa Claus Lane. The album was full of pop renditions of classic Christmas songs like “Last Christmas” and “Sleigh Ride,” with a few original songs, including the title track. Duff also recorded the pop song “I Can’t Wait” for the Lizzie McGuire soundtrack, followed by “What Dreams Are Made Of” and “Why Not” for The Lizzie McGuire Movie soundtrack.

For her future music endeavors, there are so many paths she can go down based on what she’s done previously.

For Metamorphosis, she leaned more into pop rock for some songs while keeping others pretty bubblegum pop. Her self-titled third studio album had a lot of rock influences with songs like “Fly” and “Mr. James Dean.” However, the star switched things up for Dignity, leaning into late 2000s dance and electro-pop before making another pop album with Breathe In. Breathe Out. For her future music endeavors, there are so many paths she can go down based on what she’s done previously. However, the Lizzie McGuire star can also choose a completely new sound to explore.

Breathe In. Breathe Out had some folk-pop influences, especially on “Tattoo,” co-written by Ed Sheeran. She could certainly choose to go down this road for her new album. Duff could also take inspiration from her musician husband, who has experimented with various different genres, from pop and EDM to punk rock. No matter which path Hilary Duff chooses, her fans will be excited to hear what’s in store.
