1. Meteor Shower in Australia Tonight: What You Need to Know

Stargazers are set to be spoiled with a phenomenon that NASA has named the best meteor shower in the world. In the northern Australian skies, the Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 12–13. 

Turning up every summer, the Perseid meteor shower is best known for its dazzling, fast-moving meteors, often dubbed the “shooting stars.” While they’re visible to the naked eye, here’s everything you need to know to catch the best view of the 2025 Perseid meteor shower.

Returning every August, the Perseid meteor shower will peak on the nights of Tuesday, August 12, and Wednesday, August 13. As noted by Women’s Weekly, the best time to see the Perseids in Australia is between 03:00 AM and 05:00 AM, just before sunrise.

You can expect to catch up to 100 shooting stars per hour, streaking across the sky at an incredible speed of about 59 kilometers per second.

2. Vehicles and Palm Oil Lead Indonesia’s Export Commodities to Peru

Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) revealed the 10 main export commodities of Indonesia under the Indonesia-Peru Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

This comprehensive trade agreement between the two countries is expected to expand market access for exports and imports, mutually supporting each other’s industries.

The Director-General of International Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade, Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, stated that the 10 export commodities include passenger cars and motorcycles; footwear; palm oil and its fractions; refrigerators; paper and cardboard; margarine; cloves; as well as photocopiers and fax machines.

Djatmiko explained that export opportunities for Indonesia to the Latin American region will be greatly expanded through the trade agreement with Peru. He noted that Peru is strategically positioned in international trade and within the American continent.

3. Independence Cup 2025: Indonesia Holds Tajikistan to Thrilling 2-2 Draw

The U-17 Indonesia national team had to settle for a draw against Tajikistan in their first match of the Independence Cup 2025. The chance for victory slipped away near the end of the match held at the Utama Sumatera Utara Stadium, Deli Serdang, on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Indonesia took the lead twice with goals from Mierza Firjatullah in the 34th minute and Fadly Alberto in the 50th minute. Tajikistan equalized first in the 37th minute through Zarifzoda Zarif and then again in the 90th minute with a goal by Nazrullo Ashuralizoda.

This result places Indonesia and Tajikistan in second and third place respectively in the current standings of the Independence Cup 2025. Mali, who previously defeated Uzbekistan 5-1, holds the top position.
