Top five best-selling car brands in July 2025: Tata Punch sees 33% decline – Car News
July 2025 car sales: Maruti Suzuki saw flat growth, while Mahindra continues to muscle its way in SUV sales.
July 2025 saw carmakers record growth, especially the market leader, Maruti Suzuki. While the growth is flat, the battle for second is intense between Mahindra and Hyundai, while Toyota maintains its position in the list of the top five best-selling carmakers. Also, most have reported a YoY decline. Here are the top five best-selling carmakers in July 2024.
Top five best-selling car brands in July 2025
Leading sales, as usual, in July 2025, is Maruti Suzuki, having sold 1.37 lakh vehicles. Maruti Suzuki’s sales were flat, as July 2024 also saw Maruti Suzuki sell the same, albeit with a few hundred units fewer than July 2025. For Maruti Suzuki, the Dzire was the best-seller last month, clocking sales of over 20,000 units.
Reclaiming its spot in second again is Mahindra, having seen a robust growth of 19.8 percent compared to July 2024. The SUV maker sold 49,871 units last month as compared to 41,623 units in July 2024. The Scorpio remains the best-seller for Mahindra, registering sales of over 13,000 units last month.
Hyundai settles for third
Hyundai loses battle to Mahindra again, settling for third in July 2025. The carmaker’s best-seller, the Creta, helped Hyundai achieve total sales of 43,973, while the SUV alone accounted for over 16,000 units in sales. When compared to July 2024, Hyundai saw a 10.3 percent drop in sales, and in July 2024, Hyundai registered sales of 49,013 units.
Tata Motors takes the next spot, having sold 39,521 units, registering a negative YoY growth of 11 percent. For Tata Motors, the Nexon was the best-seller last month, followed by the Punch, both having registered negative sales; however, the Punch saw a massive 33 percent drop in sales compared to July 2024.
Toyota takes fifth place, and the carmaker has seen a marginal decrease in sales compared to July 2024. Last month, Toyota’s sales stood at 29,159 units, while in July 2024, the carmaker sold 29,533 units.
Toyota’s best-seller in July 2025 was the Innova, an MPV that is popular in the fleet industry and amongst private owners owing to its capabilities and comfort. The Hyryder was the second-best seller for Toyota, registering sales of over 8,000 units. While the Hyryder saw a YoY increase, the Innova saw an 8 percent decline compared to July 2024.
